I finally got ammo and took the Bersa out to the range in Dallas. i loaded up both mags and shot at a target about 7 yards away; i shot at a standing position. the recoil of the pistol does have that whip that everyone talks about with the PPK style pistols. my accuracy with the pistol was not to my satisfaction but i blame me not the pistol it will just take range time to get used to it. i shot 100 rounds with the academy brand ammo that produced only 2 stove pipes. probably from limp wristing because i was changing my grip due to the fact that i am left handed and use my middle finger as my trigger finger. i started to use the proper trigger finger a couple times but i do not remember if those were the times the pistol stove piped. i wish i had brought my shoot n see targets but i forgot them i think having that “instant feedback” of the target would of helped me a lot with my sighting. i will try now to give more organized details in a bullet form below:

Sights:
i do not like the sights as much as say my M&P i need to just get used to them or see if i can find a place that could put different sights on the pistol. the sights would be good for say a rifle, but with this pistol it was in a way a wide open area to where you can shoot therefore if you tilt the pistol a little bit your shot will be off. again it will just take me some range time but i was never off of the target or the general area i was shooting. since this will be my every day carry i am going to put night sights on it. but i would like to see the sights as a 3 dot sight system like the M&P.

Recoil:
the pistols recoil is different. i guess with all ppk style pistols there is the whip i have never shot the walther, but from what everyone tells me the bersa does reduce the whip. after shooting the pistol my hand had a ring from the tail of the pistol hitting my hand it was just an irritation and a light bruise. but the recoil being lighter and the gun being smaller allowed me to gain sight of my target quickly and get more shots down the range in a shorter amount of time.

Trigger:
The trigger is nice i liked it a lot i tried firing from the hammer down position i guess the double action position and that still gave me no problems. i wanted to try that position for the reason i am going to carry it like that with the safety off and a round in the chamber since in a tight situation it will take longer for me to turn the safety off because i am left handed. but the trigger is smooth and i really like it; it is a great stock trigger.

Mag Safety:
i took off the mag safety when i bought the gun and test it out and it now will fire without the mag.

cleaning:
after shooting about 125 rounds the gun was not dirty i shot 100 fmj academy ammo and about 25 double tap hollow points. the fmj stove piped twice and the hollow points did fine the only thing i saw was sparks at times eject out with the shell. when the pistol stove piped all i had to do was pull the slide back and it would fall out never had to take out the mag or re-position the next shell. anyways with the cleaning i just took the slide off brushed the whole insides of the gun with a tooth brush and then ran a copper brush through the barrel as well as a bore snake. put some solvent in the barrel and wiped down the rest of the gun to get the residue off. the gun actually stays quite clean i believe because of the barrel not moving like with most automatic pistols. i put some oil on the outside of the barrel put the spring back on tight side first and then put the slide back on and pull back on the slide a few times to get the oil on the key parts other than that i think thats all i should of done if anyone else has suggestions let me know.

overall thoughts:
i think the bersa thunder 380 is a great pistol just will need some more breaking in and the shooter getting comfortable and confident with the pistol. the pistols weight makes it good for shooting, but could bother someone carrying the pistol. the pistol though does allow one to carry it in the pocket depending on the size of one’s pocket. i am looking forward to having this pistol as my carry and getting efficient with the pistol by going to the range at least once a month and shooting 50-100 rounds a session. my next update will be on the IWB holster i select for the pistol. any suggestions anyone has on the pistol please post on the comment section i am a newbie when it comes to this pistol.
thanks for reading

Several weeks ago after i got my pay check i decided to buy a pistol for my future CHL License. In the area i live the best bet for shopping is Academy. I have always eyed the Bersa just because of its size and the coolness factor of a Walther ppk like pistol. Many say the 380 bullet is very underpowered for self defense in situations, but i would rather go for comfort of carry than lug around a huge 45. This post though is not to argue about calibers for that argument will never ever be settled because you can kill someone with a .22.
The Bersa ran me around 300 with tax the price at Academy was 279.99. With the pistol i bought a spare mag called a pro mag because Bersa sells their factory made mags way over a normal price for a magazine. The Bersa comes in a cardboard box sealed in a plastic bag. after taking the pistol out of the bag the gun is covered in grease. when i got home i took it apart and wiped the gun down fairly well. once i got all the gunk off i went straight to youtube where i saw a video of a guy taking off the magazine safety. i couldnt get the bar out like the guy did but just taking out the spring in the grip does the job. i have not yet shot the pistol though because it is impossible to find 380 these days so i am going to once i get ammo do test to see if the removal will still make it a dependable pistol. but with dry firing the pistol seems perfectly functional.
The gun is all black and fits perfectly in my hand it is great for anyone who has small hands. after holding this gun for a couple hours and messing with it i picked up my S&W M&P and i thought it was huge and bulky. for now my the 9mm is still my night stand gun until i can test the Bersa but from people’s reviews of the pistol and my first impressions i think this will be a great pistol i will update this post once i can get a hold of ammo and test the pistol.

The NEF youth rifle was of course made for a small shooter. i bought this gun used i was just looking for a single shot .223 rifle. The gun only came with a scope rail and the original stock it had no sights on the gun what so ever. i paid 175 for the rifle. after i bought the rifle i went on ebay and bought the survivor stock for $40 and then went to bass pro shop and bought a REDHEAD PURSUIT 3-9×50 scope. i was just going for a good cheap scope that would get me to 100yards. the one complaint about the stock is that you need an extension on your socket wrench in order to reach the bolt so keep that in mind if you want to switch stocks. From the first looks and several reviews i thought it was a good rifle for bench shooting and decided to get it.

The gun is perfect for a backpacking gun. i consider it light weight compared to my other rifles, and the compartment in the stock can be used to carry extra ammo or some survival tools. the survivor stock also gives you a pistol grip to help keep the gun steady while firing from a standing position. the rifle does have the ability to put a strap on it for carrying i have not yet done that but will later once i get a new forearm put on that can take a light and small bi-pod. this gets me to one issue and ill present it here before i forget about it but when shooting the rifle watch your hands. the forehand screw can get very very hot and burn your hand if you hold it right where the screw is. of course the gun is single shot and with the push of a button right by the hammer the rifle breaks open like a shot gun and ejects the shell. your shell will fly so if you are trying to keep your brass either practice catching them out of the air or keep your eye on the brass if you are shooting in the field. the rifle will not break open if you have the hammer pulled back and ready to fire. this is a good safety feature that i like personally.

i love the compactness of the rifle. some people use it as a truck gun, but since i have a scope on it i dont want to do that to the rifle. if you were to use this as a survival rifle i would suggest either being very good with scopes which i am not, therefore i would go with just regular sights. the last accessories i will buy for this rifle is a new forearm and a bi-pod and strap for back packing. but other than that you cant really change the rifle on your own. you can go to the NEF or H&R website and send in your rifle stripped and they will of course for a price put a bull barrel on your gun as well as barrels that take other calibers. this feature greatly influenced my desire to buy this rifle.

when i shot this rifle which i have only done once so far. with the cost of ammo and how some ranges do not allow FMJ ammo on their ranges i select to save my money and ammo to wait and just shoot on my family property in Arkansas. with this property i have been able to shoot this rifle at ranges over 200 yards. i didnt have to the scope perfectly sighted, but it did shoot quite well in my opinion and did the job i wanted it too. if you want to shoot fast with this rifle you can. just have the ammo close in hand and you can shoot and cycle with great ease the break open action is very smooth and the shells do eject quite well. the trigger pull some will say is very rough, but i dont have that issue it might not be as good as your high class rifle and even my mosin-nagant, but it works fine once you get accustomed to it.

cleaning this rifle is very simple. just break open the rifle and take a bore snake and go up and down the barrel a couple times with it. take a tooth brush and brush around the bore area and also the ejector and extractor. maybe add a little lube around that part too, but other than that that is the basic cleaning for this gun it is very simple and easy to clean very little work required for it.

Overall this is a great and fun gun. you can use it to target shoot or hunt with. this rifle comes in many different calibers, and there are some accessories for you to help customize this gun for you. this is a target rifle for me that is worth the money and i will probably keep this rifle for a long time.

Mosin Nagants can have issues with ammunition. Most ammunition is corrosive and will eat your barrel if you do not clean it. simplest way to clean it after firing is taking the gun off the furniture (wood stock) and pouring boiling water down the barrel through the bore to get the salts out of the barrel and bore that will eat the gun. it is best you do this as soon as possible after you shoot the gun. pour boiling water down the gun until the gun is about as hot as it would get after shooting.

Another issue is the ammunition itself . most ammos will cycle through fine if the gun is properly clean before shooting. cosmoline and other gunk will once it heats up and is stuck in the bore will create a “glue” that will make the shell after being fired get stuck. to get it out simply take the cleaning rod and forcefully ram it down the barrel. be sure to take the bolt out to make it a simpler procedure. the best way to solve this problem is to make sure the bore is clean. take a brass brush of a shotgun 12 or 20 gauge and scrub the bore. this will help significantly. also take a chop stick and clean around the rim of the bore. there is a small trench that always has some gunk in it when you get the rifle.

lastly if you buy lacquered ammunition it will get stuck after shooting the gun a lot during a short period of time. the lacquer is meant for a machine-gun and it serves as a lube for the gun. if your gun is squeaky clean though this should not be a significant issue. if a lacquered shell does get stuck just shove the cleaning rod down the barrel and let the rifle cool down for a bit.

Norinco Chinese SKS rifle (7.62×39)

The Norinco SKS rifle is a copy of the Russian made SKS rifle that was produced and used before the introduction and is still used today by the Russian army as a parade and ceremonial rifle. Just like the Mosin Nagant rifle this rifle is still used in combat today. From several small countries using it to Iraqi and Afghani terrorist fighters using it. This rifle holds much in common to the AK-47 and is loved and used by many American recreational shooters. i bought mine for about 320 in January of 2008

The SKS shoots the well produced 7.62×39 (7.62 soviet). This gun for me so far will shoot any brand of 7.62, but i mainly use monarch brand ammunition that can be found at Academy for a very good price. A suggestion would be to use stripper clips that can be found on EBAY for a very cheap price. it will take some practice in using the stripper clips just be sure to put the stripper clip in the grove by the bolt handle. the kick on the rifle is not significant maybe if you have been shooting only .22′s or another small caliber the first couple times you will be sore but you will get used to it quickly. the shells on the Chinese sks will eject forward and fly i would say over 5 yards. therefore if you are at a range watch where your brass is going and make sure it is not bouncing anywhere pissing people off. with the ten round non-detachable magazine you will go through ammo quick. many people take their SKS and buy extended magazines and new stocks. unless you have more that one SKS you should not do that. a new stock is one thing, but the extended “detachable” magazines are terrible they lead to misfires and lots of jamming. But there are several hard to find SKS’s that are meant to take AK magazines but those are hard to find especially these days. The Chinese SKS should include a sling, spike bayonet, and a cleaning kit inside the stock that can be take out with a trap door. try to find an sks with everything and with a majority of the numbers on the gun matching.

Accuracy with this gun is so/so i have heard some people consider it a tack driver. i consider this a combat rifle that will get the job done. i can hit the target consistently from about 50yards over that which i have not fired i have heard it can be difficult. but this rifle was not made for precise tack driving accuracy. it is a stamped gun that was massed produced and though it will be out shot by an AR the SKS will beat most guns in dependability and toughness. the gun will cycle through ammo as fast as you can pull the trigger. the rifle is great for bump firing; you can easily find youtube videos on how to bump fire an SKS.

cleaning the gun is very simple. with the removal of the dust cover bolt and the dust cover one just takes out the spring and the bolt and the bolt carrier. brushing the whole area to get all the crud off and using a light amount of oil will do. BE SURE NOT TO USE ANY OIL AROUND THE FIRING PIN. the firing pin is a free floating firing pin and can get stuck if to much grease oil or cosmoline gets stuck around it. use a bore snake or just a regular brush to clean out the barrel. rarely you will have to clean out the gas tube near the top front of the rifle i personally never have.

Overall this is a great rifle for someone who wants a cheap semi-automatic medium caliber rifle. it is a little on the heavy side but it is no where near the weight of the mosin nagant. with the flip bayonet it is always a fun gun to play around with when you are out on the land. but with todays times with guns and ammo it is hard to find this gun for a reasonable price. it is almost worth just saving up and buying an AK or an AR, but there is still some supply of reasonably prices SKS rifles. all of my thoughts come from using a NORINCO SKS nothing else but almost every sks is worth the money.

Ill try to post some videos on youtube of shooting the SKS on open land rather than on the bench.

Thanks for reading

The Mosin Nagant 91/30 is probably one of the best rifles for the money. Used by many countries for over a hundred years it has proven itself in combat and is still seen in conflicts today such as Iraq. The simplicity of the rifle along with its high caliber makes it perfect for hunting or a beginner rifle for everyone of any age. I personally like the high caliber just for the boom and fun factor. The 7.62 Russian is a great caliber and very cheap if you can find a place to buy it from. Best place to look is gun shops and the internet to buy ammo usually places like academy do not carry this ammo especially in bulk. i would suggest getting military surplus for the gun rather than a name brand, but of course wolf is great and cheap ammunition i have never personally found any or shot any. The only problem with most military surplus ammo is that it has a corrosive primer that will over time without cleaning eat the barrel. There are many ways to clean the barrel after firing the easiest way for me personally is take the rifle off the stock and remove the bolt and pour boiling water down the bore and barrel. Do this several times till the barrel is quite warm and let it sit to dry and then run a cloth or a bore snake down to fully clean it. Another way is to mix ammonia and windex and put it on a swab and run it down the barrel several times.

REVIEW:

Any military surplus rifle is usually considered a good rifle for the most part. The 91/30 is a good rifle it is very tough and simple. Being a cheap rifle it attracts many buyers to it. The 91/30 comes usually with an assortment of things usually an oil container some cleaning tools the bayonet and ammunition pouches. The rifle is heavy when you compare it to the guns of today. The gun also is very long with the bayonet attached to it is over 5 feet long.

Firing the gun is very simple and fun. If you are able to fire it on open land please do firing it on a stand does not do it justice. The gun has a good kick to it and is very loud if you fire it at the range you will get a lot of looks and lots of people talking to you about the gun every time i go people always do. accuracy with this gun is excellent. it will hit the target if you can see it. i have not gotten to shoot the rifle over 50 yards, but from 50 or closer it will hit anything. The rifle has a 5 round non-detachable magazine that can take stripper clips but i do not use stripper clips due to the poor quality of the ones i have bought.
If you are buying a rifle that will be easy right away this is not the rifle for you. it takes time to work this rifle into being a great shooting gun. sometimes you get good ones other times you do not. with mine i had to clean it for several days i found using a 12 or 20 gauge brass brush is the best for cleaning to bore and helps a lot, but once you get the gun in good shape it is a perfect weapon. cleaning it as previously stated is easy after firing it simply take the gun apart pour boiling water down the bore and run a 30. caliber bore snake down the barrel a couple times. be sure to lube the bolt after use to ensure a smoother action. that is pretty much all you have to do to clean the gun.

SHOOTING THE GUN
very simple to shoot just load it up and point the trigger pull on these guns is actually pretty good and smooth. the bolt might take some getting used to with mine it sometimes takes a good smack to open the bolt and eject the shell. the first couple times you take the gun out you might get a bruised palm from doing this. if you cannot get the bolt open with your hand i stand the gun up and gently kick the bolt open. this gun is tough and can take that kind of punishment. if that happens though you might be using lacquered ammunition which after the bore heats up turns into a glue and sticks the bolt. or you have not cleaned the bore good enough. Try to keep the gun steady when firing of course my rifle usually shoots a little low and to the right these guns were made to shoot with the bayonet on but i never put it on when i shoot because you will have to clean that too after use to prevent the salts from corroding it. i can though get great groupings with this rifle on the bench.

PICKING A MOSIN NAGANT

Picking a Mosin-Nagant can be difficult. There are several variants the most common of course is the 91/30 which was the standard issue rifle for the Soviet army. For this article i will only talk about the 91/30.

Looking for a 91/30 one must take into consideration several things. Age of the rifle, Condition of the barrel, and the bolt system. Usually the older the rifle the better quality of the rifle. i have a 1932 Tula which was re-furbished in Ukraine. With the 91/30 there are several countries such as Russia, US, China, and the most coveted in quality the Finnish rifles. Any rifle overall will do with the Russian rifles try to look for an older Tula rifle. The Tula’s have a reputation to be overall better quality. Once you go to a store look at every 91/30 each one has its own characteristics from the condition of the stock to all the numbers of the rifle matching. once you have narrowed down the rifles take an LED light down the bore and and the barrel and see first of all if you can see to the other side and how black the rifling and the condition of the bore. Some rifles at the end of the barrel have been counter-bored, but that is due to the fact the front of the barrel was in such poor condition. Be sure to take out the bolt and look at the bore with a dirty and ruined bore you can either 1. not get a cartridge in or 2. over time in a shooting session the bullet can get stuck and you will have to take the cleaning rod out to get the shell casing out. If you ever have doubt in the casing being extracted when shooting check the bore. There has been an occasion when a person got a live round in the bore with a spent shell casing and it blew the gun up and injured the shooter with burns and several bits of metal. After checking the barrel and the bore look over the condition of the stock. stocks can be either perfect with a good coat of shellac or beaten up with no shellac. depending on who you are a beaten up stock could have some historical character to it. some may not like it and sand the stock down and put some new shellac on it. with mine it was beaten up i kept the bumps and dents on the stock. i just simply stripped the old shellac and went to Lowes and got some new shellac. Whatever you do do not change the stock to a synthetic stock this ruins the whole feel of the gun and is commonly called “bubba” the gun up. If the rifle is covered in cosmoline there is no need to look away from it. Cosmoline protects the rifle when it is stored for long periods of time. to take off cosmoline simply boil all the metal parts of put them in the dishwaher with the wood stock rub it down with mineral water. the most important place to get the cosmoline out is the bore.

When picking a mosin nagant pick the one that fits you best and as most owners say the one that speaks to you. i promise you you will not regret buying one and after having one it is most likely you will buy another. try to get a Russian version first because they are usually cheaper try not to spend more than 125 for one. but once you do some more research you will find that some collectors ones will be worth and will cost a lot more.

THE BEST SITE FOR RESEARCH ON ANYTHING MOSIN NAGANT IS

my friend and I went to academy yesterday to buy an AR. i stick to Russian surplus simply because they are cheap and fun, also the ammo is inexpensive. He was looking for a bushmaster ORC but right when we showed up the guy had bought it. they had two ar’s left one was the SIG and the other was i believe a police carbine bushmaster. my friend wanted to be able to remove the carry handle on his rifle so that threw out thebushmaster, and after talking him into it i finally got him to dish out 1700 for the new rifle. these guns will continue to go up so i told him better get it now before they are out or go up more.

We will try to take it out next week but it is a great looking rifle that has a good feel to it. i like the flip up sites that come with it, but the “paintball” red dot sight on it is a piece of crap. but who buys an AR to put that on he is saving up to put an EOTECH site on it.

The gun itself weighed about 8.5lbs it kinda feels as heavy as my sks but i might be wrong and probably am. it came with one mag with the ability to clip more mags to it. i like the bolt handle on the side compared to the rear pull on most AR’s. the bolt release is metal which i really like. now i will not feel scared to smack the release. i have a feeling this will be a great and fun gun for my friend he feels kinda bad about spending 1700 for it but compared to the ORC that he wanted it has many of the upgrades that he was planning on getting such. the rifle is also very simple to take down. just pushing the pin almost all the way out breaks open the rifle and removing the bolt is able to be done with the quick and simple removal of the bolt cocking knob. right now the gun is very very stiff but with simple use and lubing it will be a great gun in my opinion.

Once we take this rifle out i will upload a more full review as well as pictures and videos on youtube.

About two years ago i purchased a used S&W M&P 9mm. I researched the gun and even though the pistol was under a year old and didnt have a long track record yet i believed it was a good pistol so i bought it. after several thousand rounds i have not been proven wrong. i personally have never had any problems with the pistol except when i have been rapid firing the pistol paint ball style. i love the pistol and i am very happy to see the pistol being used by many police agencies as well as the DEA. I think this pistol in several more years will help push Smith and Wesson back into the Gun market in the likes of Glock and Sig Sauer.

Review of my S&W M&P 9m

Caliber: 9m
Magazine capacity: 17
Sights: White 3 dot system
Safety: none…. (they have released some pistols with thumb safeties recently, but i have not seen them in stores)

As i said i purchased this gun about two years ago after doing research and deciding to buy an American pistol. I am not taking anything away from German or any other kind of pistol i own mainly foreign weapons, but i believed this pistol was the best fit for me. With saying that i have small hands. This pistol has three different palm swells small, medium, and large. This allows many different types of users for the M&P. I have gone so far as to take off the palm swell entirely and shoot it without any form of grip. Several of my friends who shoot the pistol do not like it but it is my pistol and if it is your gun you set up your weapon to your personal specifications. I recently though purchased a Hogue grip sleeve for the pistol. It fits fine on the M&P, but i have not been able to shoot it yet. Once i do take it out i can give my opinion for the sleeve grip

The M&P is a great gun to shoot i find it very accurate if you shoot it in a reasonable fashion. I have shot the pistol in a rapid fire fashion and once that happens your shots will go all over the target and sometimes miss the target. If you shoot it and take your time after every shot maybe 3 seconds you can hit your target consistently and get really good groupings. The gun does take a certain “break in” period of about 1500 rounds some people on the MP-Pistol forum say in order to get the brass to eject properly but even with that the pistol from my experience does not eject wolf ammunition very well. The HOT casings eject upwards and usually do not get passed the shooter. I have had brass get stuck in my sun glasses and burn the side of my head so if you shoot cheap ammo i would suggest to wear a hat. But i have never had the pistol stove pipe on me or had any full on ejection issues preventing the pistol to fire. I think the shooting part of the pistol is excellent and have no issues with the M&P.

Cleaning the gun is very simple it is similar to the cleaning of a Sig Sauer pistol. With pulling the slide back and locking it with the magazine ejected you simply flip the lever on the left side of the pistol and keep it down as you slowly release the slide. Once the trigger is pulled the slide slides right off the frame. After taking off the recoil spring and barrel simple scrubbing of the barrel and the firing pin area and a good lubing of the slide and outside of the barrel will do. The barrel though can get really dirty with the use of an FMJ round. Copper will over time get caught in the rifling. I have used several solutions and bore snakes and lots of hard brushing and gotten most of the fouling out. The way i check to see if the gun is clean is glance over everything with an LED light. Be sure to brush the ramp part of the barrel that part gets the most crud on it out of all the parts of the pistol.

Lastly accessories for the pistol are starting to be made. i bought a black hawk holster for mine and it works great. Be careful there have been some recalls on these holsters though. The pistol does have a rail on the bottom for one to attach a laser, lights or anything else. The only complaint i have with the pistol is the magazine. The magazines are expensive and at times hard to find. I would think give it a couple more years and that will change.

This is a great gun for the money. If you are looking for a new pistol to open carry or just shoot please take a look at this pistol. Many law enforcement agencies and departments have taken a look at the pistol and tested it, and now have allowed it for use or made it the issue for their department.

Please send me any comments or questions. Thank You
